Sergeant Lamonte Sims passed away peacefully in his family home on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024 at the age of 71 surrounded in love.
Lamonte was born on November 23rd, 1952 in Toledo, Ohio and was a lifetime Toledo native. He accepted Christ at an early age at St. Philip Lutheran Church under the leadership of Rev. Pranschke. Lamonte attended and graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School and retired from the United States Post Office after 34 years.
Lamonte was, but not limited to; a loving, supportive father, proud grandfather, brother, uncle and positive influencer who enjoyed time with family, his library of vinyl records, and traveling. A guru at shooting pool, trivia and card games, renowned league bowler, who served and protected his loved ones and country enlisting to the Air Force in 1970 to 1974 during the Vietnam War, a board member of the Elks Lodge, and an honorable volunteer tax preparer. Due to his endless, notable smooth charisma which never waned, he was scouted by his employer and landed a short stint as an actor (U.S. Post Office “ Black Elvis” 1993).
Lamonte was preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Elease, nephew Charles, sisters; Brenda, Ellease, Albertus, brothers; Stephen, Elbert III, Darryl, Donald and Ronald.
He leaves to cherish his memories and to carry on his legacy, his son, Brandon L. Sims, daughter, Ebony Lamonica Sims, grandson, Brandon L. Sims Jr., granddaughter, Braiel “Melody” Sims, sisters; Jennifer Slatton, Jackie Holifield, Luciller, Marcia, Valerie, Margaretta and Evelyn Sims, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Newcomer Funeral Home, (Southwest Chapel) on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM. The funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
