Kimberly S. "Kim" Channer, age 48 of Sylvania, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Flower Hospital after a difficult battle with cancer. She was born on November 4, 1963 to Herman and Wyvetta (Gipson) Essig in St. Joseph, Michigan. Kim worked as a fraud investigator with the Lucas County Job and Family Services for nearly 20 years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she served as a committee member and remained very involved with the church life and activities. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
In 2010, Kim was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer which prompted her friend Lisa to create Nightingales Harvest, an organization that provides food, toiletries and any essentials that a cancer family may need. After seeing the positive impact that the organization had made, Kim became very dedicated to the cause and served as a board member. Throughout her cancer journey, Kim maintained her relentless spirit and a pay-it-forward attitude (P.A.C.E. Positive Attitude Changes Everything). Her family will dearly miss her and will remember her as a loving and supportive, wife, mother, daughter and sister.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Brennan Channer; children, Sam Mardini, Andréa Mardini, Abagail Channer and Logan Channer; her parents, Herman (Wyvetta) Essig; siblings, Wava (Gene) Smedlund, Mike (Libby) Essig, Alyson (Richard) Wagner and Stacey (Garrick) Stubblefield; beloved pet, Gus; a host of very special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive guests Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 2-4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Memorial Services will begin in the funeral home at 4:00 p.m.
