Kenneth Phillip Kay

March 23, 1945 — December 28, 2020

Kenneth P. Kay, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020, in Erie, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Joseph Kay and Verna (Aldrich) Kay.

A graduate of DeVilbiss High School, he had went on to The University of Toledo for two years, where he received a business degree. Kenny had worked at Doehlers-Jarvis and had worked at Chrysler. He had retired from his family printing business, Kay Toledo Tag in 1996 where he was co-owner with his brothers.

Kenny met his wife, Carol, in 1959 at the former Mirror Ball Room on N. Detroit Avenue. He enjoyed playing in his band with his brother and friends, the Hi-Rocks. His father also had a band, Joe Kay Quartet, where Kenny played the drums.

A longtime coach in the Washington Junior Football League, where he had coached the Hopewell Arrows football team. He was a long time scout leader with Boy Scout Troop #53 at Hopewell School.
Kenny and Carol enjoyed being by the water; they had a home in Clearwater, Florida, where they would spend the winters, and a cottage in Catawba Island. While on the water, he enjoyed boating, fishing and always enjoyed the beautiful views of Lake Erie.

He lived and was part of the Point Place/Shoreland Community, where he served many years as a Washington Township Trustee. He served many years on the Washington Township Fire Department, where he was very proud to receive lifetime membership status for his many years of service.

A man of many hobbies, he enjoyed riding ATVS up in Northern Michigan. In his younger years, he enjoyed Drag Racing and won several championships at the Milan and Detroit drag way. An avid gun collector, he enjoyed shooting guns. He enjoyed spending time at Southern Michigan Sportsman Club, especially with his grandson, Justin. Kenny was an avid fan of football, especially his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Carol (Lawrence) Kay, whom he married on May 9, 1964; son, Ronald (Kim) Kay; daughter, Kendra (Al) Grodi; grandson, Justin; four brothers, Thomas (Sue), Dan (Nancy), John (Cindy), and Robert Kay; as well as many nieces and nephews and so many friends.

In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his son, Robby Kay and grandson, Joseph Grodi.
Kenny's family would like to thank the nurses of Hospice of North West Ohio, for the comforting care and support they gave to Kenny and the rest of the family.
