Kenneth C. "Ken" Ochs, age 92, of Westerville, OH, formerly of Lambertville, MI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Village of Westerville Retirement Center. Ken was born on September 15, 1921, the first of two sons of Charles and Agnes (Gabel) Ochs in Fremont, Ohio. Ken is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Glenna Mae (Koch) Ochs in May 2010, his brother Donald in 2001, and his parents.
During WWII, Ken served his country as a staff sergeant in the Army/Air Force, based in England, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and South America. After the war ended, he attended Bowling Green State University, and earned a degree in accounting and business administration. While first establishing his own tax preparation and accounting firm, Ken eventually joined Canteen Service Company of Toledo from which he retired after twenty years of service.
Ken was a proud and active member of the Conn Weissenberger American Legion Post 587, serving as a Past Commander and Chaplin Emeritus, as well as the Elks Lodge 53. Even into his later years, Ken maintained a lifelong love of music, bringing his pure baritone 5th harmony to barbershop music at every possible opportunity.
Left to celebrate Ken's life are his children, Gretchen (Rick) Edelen of Helena, MT; Sharon (Allan) Miller of Danville, IN; and Susan (Rick) Clark of Westerville, OH. Other family members include grandchildren Benjamin (Julie) Edelen, Jeffrey Edelen, Eric (Rachel) Miller, Ryan Miller, Christopher Miller, Michelle Clark, and Jennifer Clark. Ken was also the proud great-grandpa of Ash Edelen and Zoey Miller.
The family will receive guests on Monday, May 5, 2014, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH (419-381-1900). Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Toledo Memorial Park.
