Kathryn F. Shine

Kathryn F. “Katie” Shine, age 95, of West Toledo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at The Grove at Oakleaf Village. She was born on April 24, 1929 to Thomas and Sylvia (Knox) Shine in Millbury, Ohio. Kathryn graduated from Lake High School. She was employed with Owens Illinois until retiring in 1985 as a secretary, something she was truly proud of. Kathryn loved nature, squirrel and bird watching and moon gazing. She loved dogs, especially her Fox Terrier Teeny. Kathryn enjoyed the smell of coffee, a good chocolate chip cookie and listening to show music. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Kathryn’s smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 7 siblings; nieces, Marjorie Hursey and Patricia Walborn; and nephew, James Shine. Left to cherish Kathryn’s memory are her loving niece, Pamela Yard; nephews, Thomas (Rosalie), John and Gary (Theresa) Shine; many great-nieces, great-nephews and dear friends. 

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
