Kathleen Strong passed away on August 7, 2014 walking in the park, on a beautiful day with her dear friend, Helen. She was born on September 6, 1925 in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Robert and Sara Beatson who nicknamed her 'Rena.'
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Paul Strong, the father of her children. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Carl Simonis. Kathleen traveled to Ireland in 1935, where she spent time with family, studied & learned the Irish dance. She graduated in 1944, from St. Mary's High School in Dearborn and immediately started her career at Alcoa as a secretary. She went on to work in accounting at Bendex Corp. during WWII. As a young married couple, Kathleen and Paul began their family in Michigan and then relocated to Toledo. She worked at Belman's Grocery Store and finished her career at The Lion Store. Kathleen's family came first but she was a mother to all of the children that came into her life. She was ahead of her time in terms of health and fashion. Kathleen was always well dressed. She had a passion for traveling, entertaining and was active with Christ the King Church. She enjoyed many years in a pinochle club and was known warmly as the "Director of Gardening." Kathleen was a lifelong Democrat, and lived her life with the firm belief of equality for everyone. She was altruistic, and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Kathleen is survived by Herb Boyer, her endearing companion of 16 years; children, Dennis (Judie) Strong and Sheila Cook; grandchildren, Brandon (Dawn), Laura, Anna, Sean, Jennifer, Aaron, Ashley; 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Rosary Service will begin Sunday at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will begin at Noon on Monday at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH 43623.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
