Kathleen F. Spencer

Kathleen F. "Cathy" Spencer, age 69, of Toledo, passed away peacefully January 1, 2016 at Tidwell Hospice of Sarasota, FL with her husband and son by her side. She was born on June 1, 1946 to Lewis and Mary (Kuhlman) Tompkins in Pleasant Valley, New York. Cathy's proudest accomplishment was opening a store with her husband, the Coal & Woodburner Shoppe. They retired from the Shoppe after 37 years and now enjoy watching their sons, Jeff and Daryl run the store. Cathy was an avid gardener, loved painting, scrapbooking and was very handy around the house. She loved animals, especially horses and her dogs. Cathy enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, camping and loved bowling. She never met a stranger and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jim Soden. Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Donald; which they celebrated on Dec. 4th; sons, Jeffery (Jenny) and Daryl (Tracy) Spencer; daughter-in-law, Carrie (Michael) Eischen; grandchildren, Amanda (John), Justin, Allison, Halley, Devin and Karlie; great-grandson, Conor; sisters, Gerrie Soden and Karen (John) Miller; brothers, Mike (Sue) and Jerry (Mary) Kern; nephew, Michael (Addy) Soden; niece, Stacy (Kevin Norris) Soden; canine companions, Bailey and Teddy; and many dear friends.

The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 – 9:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5153 N. Summit St., Toledo 43611. Entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
