McCONNAUGHY Karen A. McConnaughy, age 73, of Maumee, passed away on Thursday, December 31, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Karen was born on August 12, 1942, in Rochester, PA, to the late Charles S. and Dorothy E. (Lyon) May. She grew up in Beaver, PA, where she met her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 52 years, Donald E. McConnaughy. The couple married on August 2, 1963, and moved to Maumee in 1967.
Karen is survived by her husband, Donald, daughters Kelley (Jason) Gray and Patricia (David) Megyesi and grandchildren Caroline, Joe and Lauren Gray and Abigail and Rachel Megyesi. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Karen's faith and family were her greatest priorities. Her inner strength and gracious spirit blessed all who knew her.
Karen was a graduate of the Sewickley Valley School of Nursing in Pennsylvania. She worked as a registered nurse for many years. After earning her CCRC (Certified Clinical Research Coordinator) certification, she co-founded Clinical Research Source and partnered with physicians to conduct investigational prescription drug trials. Karen also volunteered at her church and with Red Cross disaster relief services.
The family will receive guests from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 4, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) and also on Tuesday, January 5, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Calvary Church, 1360 Conant Ave, Maumee. Funeral services will immediately follow at the church at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Calvary Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
