Julius D. James Sr.

February 21, 1941 — July 17, 2021

Julius Daniel James Sr. a.k.a " Dr. J" and or called by family "Ju Babe," departed this life on July 17, 2021.

Julius D. James was born on February 2, 1941 in Hartselle, Alabama to Elliott Sr. and Rosie Lee (Stanton) James. The family moved to Monroe, Michigan when Julius was a small infant through his 18th year. Julius attended Monroe High School where he received various awards in arts and crafts. Shortly after high-school, Julius decided to serve his country by enlisting into The United States Army and served as a Private for two years before being honorably discharged in 1963. In his mid-twenties, he moved to Toledo, Ohio for work and was employed for over 30 years with Pilkington formally known as Libbey Owens Ford. Julius work for the glass factory from Sept 19, 1968 until he retired in September of 2003. A true renaissance man Julius added to his list of achievements by becoming a member of the Freemasons Lodge #3, April 16, 1979. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers (USW) local 9, and the Blue Gill Fishing Club known for the "Best Catfish in Town" where he enjoyed his love for cast net fishing.

Julius was a fun-loving Father/grandfather that had a passion for road trips and exploring. He had a way about himself that can turn any setting into a true adventure! One such event would be the annual Apple Orchard trip he would take the family on in the fall of each year. Julius also loved to entertain. He was known to be the life of any party. Julius would joke with family and friends telling stories about funny events. He would often lead into these stories with his famous catchphrases – "You know one thang" or "Guess what?" leaving folks in suspense until he was ready to continue. Julius was a man of many talents and hobbies including: painting (self-taught artist). Perfecting his homemade wines, which friends and family would rave about. He also loved working in his beautiful garden (where he could grow anything and I mean ANYTHING!). Another love of his was maintaining his many fish tanks that held a variety of fish. He loved tanks so much, he decide to water proof a storage room in his basement and make it into a giant fish tank. Julius also was an avid Chess Player. Last but not least, he definitely knew how to bring the family and neighborhood together to connect and fellowship by throwing BBQ's/Pig Roasts. We all looked forward to it every year. Julius was a man of few words but when he spoke, it resonated with you.

He was preceded in death by both parents; Brothers: Andrew James, Willie-James Jackson; Sister: Alice James; Daughters; Brenda Saunders, and Pansy Saunders.

He leaves to cherish his memory; Sister: Mary Catherine Burress; Brother: Elliott "BayBay" James (Katherine); Former Wife and life long friend; Rosemarie Parker; Children; Nadine Saunders, Earl "Michael" Fuller, Rochella "Rosey" Fuller, Thomas "Rocky" Saunders, Alice James, Laura Shorter, John Winfree, Billie Winfree, Nicole James, Julius James II, Marilyn James, Anna Jones, and Winston James; Special Nephew: Andrew "Bruce" James Jr. (Vivian "Tina") a host of loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
