Julie A. (Barker) Williams, age 50, of Toledo, formerly of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 31, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice Residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 7, 1965 to Daniel and Irene Barker in Toledo. Julie joined the Beaufort County EMS in 1995 and rose through ranks, working as a paramedic, crew chief and in administrative roles before becoming the department's training officer in 2008. In 2001 she was voted by her peers as paramedic of the year and in 2013 she was awarded the highest honor an EMS educator can receive, The Hero's Award; presented by the National Association of EMS Educators, only 8 other instructors nationwide have received this award, which was presented in Washington D.C.. Julie was an excellent cook, loved gardening and animals, spending time outdoors and being with her family.
Julie is survived by her loving mom, Irene Barker; siblings, Mark (Gena) Barker, Laura (Mark) Johnson and Michael (Sarah) Barker; canine companion, Drake; nieces and nephews, Brytanne, Lauren (Jake), Matthew, Josh, Cody, Jonathon and Madelyn; significant other, Bob Page; and many other relatives, co-workers and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
