Julia Rachel Henry, 96, of Holland, OH, passed away peacefully at Kingston Care Center of Sylvania in the early morning of Saturday, January 16, 2021. Born in Irving, KY on February 16, 1924 "Julie R." went from finishing high school in Glasgow to a job on the line at the Willow Run bomber plant in MI during WWII. She worked at the Toledo Mental Health Center and was also a factory worker at General Motors for 11 years. Julia later served as an officer for the local Alzheimer's Association chapter, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and was a generous donor of time and support to multiple charities. Julia logged over 4500 hours volunteering at her beloved Sylvania Senior Center, having been a greeter there for years, as well as having served as an usher for the annual Senior Follies. She was nominated by the Area Office on Aging for the Medical Mutual Volunteer of the Year Award in 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucas and Suzanne; her foster parents, Leslie and Dorothy; step-father, Welsy; brother, Leslie; sisters, Delcie and Virginia; niece, Debbe. Sadly she was also preceded in death by her two young sons, Rodney at age 33 and David at age 21.
Julia is survived by her granddaughter, Shelly; her grandsons, Mark and David; great-grandchildren; Ryan (Shelly), Chelsey, Chandler, Chase, and Chaden (Mark); sister, Daisy; many nieces, nephews, as well as her longtime friend and helper, Mike.
Julia loved her family and friends, had a great sense of humor and the gift of gab. She forgave those who wronged her, and was among the most fiercely loyal people we have ever known. Close friends sometimes joke about how if any of us showed up on the other's porch with a body in the trunk, we'd just grab a shovel, no questions asked. It was like that with Gram. Only she really meant it. We will love and miss you always, Gram. You were one of a kind.
Many thanks to the caring staffs both at Kingston and St. Luke's Hospital.
