Joyce Evelyn Durfey

Joyce Evelyn (Hamilton) Durfey, Age 75 years old, passed away on Saturday April 5, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Roseville Michigan, the 4th of 12 children of Alfred & Myrtle Hamilton, on September 18, 1932. In 1951 she married Jack R Durfey. Their marriage lasted until his death in March, 2000.

Joyce retired from Foodtown after working there for some 30 years at which time she became "The Cookie Lady", selling Uncle Wayne's Cookies to area businesses and hospitals.

Joyce was an excellent euchre player as well as a great cook. She and Jack loved to entertain family and friends.

Surviving are her daughters, Nora (Mike) Kelly, Jackie (Paul) Reardon, and Denise Durfey- Hoffman. Also surviving are her grandchildren
Jim Busch, Jack Durfey, Janelle Nelson, Sean Reardon, Paul David Reardon, Nick Durfey and Veronica Durfey. Great Grandchildren are Thomas, Logan, Levi and Jack, Jr.

Also surviving are her sisters, Alene (Herb) Wroblewski, Barbara Daley Donna (Roger ) LaRoque; , brothers, Wayne (Patricia ), Glen (Shirley) , Ron, Dan (Bonnie ) and Bob (Georgia) Hamilton.

Joyce was proceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, sister, Edith Baldwin, brothers Lee and Harry Hamilton and sister In Law, Bernice Hamilton. Joyce also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and close friends who will miss her.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their dedication and graciousness during her time with them. We would also like to express our deep gratitude to Dr. William Rachwal of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of NW Ohio for his integrity, professionalism, dedication and care of our mother during the last months of her life.

The family will receive guests Thursday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills memorial Park.
