Joyce E. Nelson

Joyce E. Nelson, age 65, of Toledo, moved in with Jesus on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Toledo Hospital where she was surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on July 21, 1950 to Walter F. and Claire M. (Schubert) Hecker in Hempstead, New York. Joyce was a graduate of Capital University. She married Paul Nelson, her husband of 43 years, in Baldwin, NY.

Joyce was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she was involved in WELCA, the Prayer & Fellowship group, Wednesday dinners, catechism and various Bible study groups, including West Park Place. She previously served on the board of Church Women United.

She retired in 2014 after ten plus years at the Sanger Branch Library of TLCPL and was an avid reader.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Paul Nelson; children, Andrew Tobias Nelson and Margaret Ruth Nelson; cousin, Gordon Rink; her church family; brother-in-law, Vern Nelson; and sister-in-law, Doris Davis (Raymond).

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Joyce's funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3274 Upton Ave., Toledo, OH 43613, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Stacy Lauer-Scovanner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church.
