Heaven has a newly minted Guardian Angel as Joyce Angeline Bailey went to be with the Lord June 26, 2021. She was the firstborn child of Everett Hobbs and Evelyn (Mays) Hobbs. Everett Hobbs was one of the many brave soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy during World War II.
Though she was born in Coeburn, Virginia, Joyce and Robert, her husband, raised their children in Temperance, Michigan.
After raising three wonderful children, Joyce worked for Bedford High School's Cafeteria, and then as a Deli-Manager for Food Town Super Market (where she retired from). She was also an accomplished seamstress who owned her own sewing shop for a time. When her son opened a pizzeria, she proudly made all the desserts. In her final years, she baked Cookies and Muffins for The Church on Strayer, her beloved church of more than 40 years.
A faithful pillar of The Church on Strayer, she loved the Lord and chose to spread his love through kindness and delicious baked goods every Sunday. She will be missed.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Aaron (Donna) Bailey and Joel (Melinda) Bailey; her daughter, Nichole (Joseph) Gillen; her grandchildren, Donald Villarreal, Jr., Jaculyn (Dominic) Bailey-Lacy, Joshua Bailey, Bailey Gillen, Sydney Gillen, Emily Gillen and Brett Bailey; her great grandchildren, Liliana, Raiden, and Orion; her brothers, Bill Hobbs and Al (Tina) Hobbs; her sisters, Brenda (Barry) Elder, Barbara (William) Bailey, and Gale (Joseph) Hulderman, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband for over 51 years, Robert B. Bailey, Jr.; father, Everett Hobbs; mother, Evelyn Hobbs; brothers, Bob Hobbs and Ron Hobbs; and those close family members and dear friends who will remain in our hearts forever.
The family will receive guests Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4-8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Rd. (419-392-9500). A Celebration of Life Ceremony will begin Friday at 10:00 am at the Church on Strayer, 3000 Strayer Rd, Maumee, OH., and interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider making a monetary donation on behalf of Joyce to The Church on Strayer, the funds will be designated to help build the New Life Care Center.
