Joseph R. Washington

Joseph Ronnie Washington was born in Toledo, OH on August 17, 1953, to Joseph Henry and Thelma Washington. Joseph was called home to rest on October 3rd, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Hospital.

He was baptized at Universal Holiness Church where he attended Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as a Deacon. There, he considered his family church his home.

After graduating from Libbey High School, his first job was with Libbey’s Glass Inc., then his career kick off with AMC-American Motors Company, Daimler Chrysler, and now Chrysler Jeep of Northwest Ohio. Joseph had a long-term work history with Chrysler spanning over 47 years. As a loyal member of the UAW, Joseph was a spirit of positivity and partner to everyone and anyone who needed his guidance. He was well respected and loved by many or his peers and senior management. He was a great provider and enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Joe especially loved to talk to his children and grandchildren.

Joseph had smile and a laughter that was his own. Many times, while enjoying things that were his staple, you could often feel his passion and joy. Let’ start with his love of football and the Dallas Cowboys. “How ‘bout them cowboys” was a man cave theme. There was no debating or changing his mind. In addition, a good game of shooting pool, detailing cars and landscaping was how he spent his time. But truly the number one joy was time with family and friends, often hosting Holiday and Superbowl events and more.

He is proceeded by his parents, Joseph Henry Washington and Thelma Washington, brothers Johnnie and Vincent Washington. His memories are left to be cherish by the love of his life and wife, Marcia-Hopkins-Washington of 26 years. Also, his children Joseph “JT” Washington the III, Sharonda Meredith Washington, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sisters Iris Cuffie, Helen Andrews, Darlene Washington, brothers Carron “Carl” Washington, Andrew “Leroy“ Washington, and William Washington, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Family and friends will be received at the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 445 Door St. Toledo on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 10:00 am-12:00 PM. A service Celebrating Joseph’s life will begin at 12:00 PM.
