Joseph J. "Joe" Staunton, Jr., age 69, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Merit House. He was born on August 5, 1948 to Joseph Sr. and Mary (Gardner) Staunton in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. serving in the Vietnam War. He received his associated degree from Davis College in 2007. Joe enjoyed working outdoors and fishing. He was an avid gardener, loved music and dancing. Joe enjoyed writing poetry, which some of his poems are in the process of being published. He was a member of Christ Dunberger American Legion Post #537, where he was a member of the Color Guard. Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Joe is survived by his loving siblings, Pamela Pyle, Harry (Nora) Staunton, John (Kathy) Staunton, Walter Staunton, and Edwin Staunton, Sr.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) with Christ Dunberger American Legion Post #537 Services at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Resurrection will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo with visitation at church from 9:00 a.m. until Mass begins. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
