Joseph J. Planicka, age 82, passed away March 18, 2013. Born May 13, 1930 in Holasovice, Czechoslovakia, Joseph was the eldest of three children.
In 1948 he left for Germany and lived two years in a refugee camp to escape the communism in Czechoslovakia. In 1951 he immigrated to the United States. He served four years in the United States Air Force as a radio operator and in air-refueling during the Korean War. In 1958 he graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Toledo and proceeded to earn his CPA. As a successful businessman over the next thirty years in the Toledo area, he touched many people with his gracious, kind spirit and loving heart.
Survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; brother, Karel; sister, Maria; son, Michael; daughters, Carissa and Karen; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other extended family members and dear friends.
Funeral Service Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 1pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, OH 43623 with visitation one hour prior. Interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Sylvania, OH.
