Joseph Stanley Markiewicz
February 7, 1941 — June 9, 2021
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, children Erin (Greg) Telecky of Bowling Green, Ohio, Jeffrey Joseph of Toledo and Heather (Greg) Steenrod of Charlotte, NC. He was much loved by his grandchildren, Melissa, Maddie and Jared Telecky as well as Drew, Annabel and Alexander Steenrod and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Joe graduated from Cathedral Prep High School in Erie, PA and Gannon University. Joe enlisted with the United States Army and served from 1962 to 1968 as a 101st Airborne Ranger, being promoted to the rank of Captain. After serving his country Joe entered into his professional career as a Chemical Engineer through retirement and prioritized his relationships with his colleagues, many becoming life-long friends.
Joe married Carol Elcessor and had a wonderful marriage for 42 years. Carol passed away in 2010. Joe and Carol had many shared interests such as tennis, travel and boating with family being the most important to them both.
Joe will be remembered by many as being a family man, friendly, fun and very intelligent. Joe enjoyed volunteering and helping others, golfing and mostly spending time on his boat with family and friends. Many will remember Joe sitting in his Captain's chair on the boat, greeting you with a smile and asking how you were doing.
After Carol passed away Joe met the wonderful Shirley Adair and they married in the Villages, Florida where they shared many loving years together.
Joe was proceeded in death by his parents Stanley and Clara Markiewicz and sister Connie.
The family will receive guests Saturday, June 19th from 10am to 11am at Saint John XXIII at 24250 North Dixie Highway, Perrysburg, OH 43551. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11am, officiating will be Fr. Herbert Weber, entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. Services will be livestreamed on Saturday.
