Joseph M. Shasteen, age 57, of Toledo, passed away June 11, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 18, 1958 in Toledo to James and Sylvia (Gozdowski) Shasteen. A highly decorated veteran, Joe served his country for almost 23 years as a combat engineer in the United States Army. Joe worked for the Veterans' Administration after retiring from active service in Toledo, Ohio. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking. The greatest love of Joe's life was spending time with his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife, Laurie A. Shasteen; son, Jake J. Shasteen; daughter, Shayna M. Shasteen; grandson, Drake E. Whitacre; sisters, Jackie Ceculski, Judy (Victor) Poronczuk, Jill Shasteen and June Shasteen; father-in-law, James (Joanne) Hahn; mother-in-law, Joyce Blaylock and many nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Shasteen and sister, Susan Shasteen.
The family will receive guests Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, Ohio.
