Joseph H. Heiny, age 79, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Joseph was born February 14, 1929 to Boyd and Irene (Smith) Heiny in Noblesville, Indiana. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1947. Joe married Betty Lou Botjer on February 7, 1953 and she survives him. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was employed with E.I. DuPont for 38 years, retiring in 1985. After retiring, Joe entertained as his alter ego, Santa Claus. He brought smiles to countless children at the malls, the Zoo and private parties. Joe was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, the Masons and a Lifetime member of American Legion Post #262, as well as VFW Post #606, where he was also a past commander.
In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Betty, Joe is survived by his children, Chris (Arlene) Heiny; Charna Hildebrand; Charles (Amy) Heiny; and Craig (Marie) Heiny; grandchildren, C.J. (Carrie); Angie (Sean); Tiffany; Kayla; Jake and Angel; great grandchildren, Breanna; Phoenix and Olivia.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Honor Guard Services beginning at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
The Heiny Family requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made to Reformation Lutheran Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to the charity of the donor's choice.
