Joseph E. Hoye, Jr., 81, left to be with his Lord on January 24, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 26, 1930 to the late Ethel and Joseph E. Hoye, Sr. in Toledo, Ohio.
Joe was a proud veteran of the Marines; he served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart from injuries received in battle. Joe was also decorated with awards of valor including the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. His proudest accomplishment was retiring from the Toledo Firefighters after 34 years. Joe received the #1 Badge for most time served during his firefighting career. He loved spending time with his family, especially during the holiday season.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 57 years, Madeline; children, Joe (Shirley), Lucy (Rob) Young, John (Sara), Michael (Janis), Bob (Lisa), Chris (Beth); sisters, Vivian Cousino, Donna (Reynold) Rahm; grandchildren, Rachel, Josh, Jessica, Victoria, Shannon, Kelley, Kristen, Daniel, Emilie, Abbe, Jonathon, Malachi, Madeline, Isaac, Katie (Mark), Anthony, Nina, Ashleigh, Megan (Therron), Grace, Brandon; great-grandchildren, Meredith, Tara, Madelana, Justice, Myles, Christian, Dayton and Ava.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the caring staff at Sylvania Care and Rehab.
The family will receive guests on Monday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Military Honors and the Fireman's Last Alarm will begin at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church, 4543 Douglas Rd., Toledo.
