Joseph A. Cherry, age 67, of Toledo, formerly of Texas and Florida, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2006 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born May 25, 1939 To Richard and Rose Marie (Wilkie) Cherry in Toledo. Joe was employed with Airport Limousine Service. He enjoyed the Theater and was very active in Community Theaters while he lived in Texas and Florida, as well as the Toledo Repertoire locally. Joe loved to act and direct. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. Joe lived for many years in Houston, Texas and Ft. Walton Beach, Florida until returning to Toledo two years ago after his wife, Betty passed away in Florida.
In addition to his wife Betty Cherry, Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings, Rev. Richard Cherry, SJ a missionary in Africa; Michael (Therese) Cherry of Toledo; Patrick (Christine) Cherry of Raleigh, NC; Kathleen (Raymond) Swiatecki of Toledo; Rita (William) Hadley of Clinton Township, MI and Sr. Rose Marie, PCC of Cleveland, OH and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests Monday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Scripture Services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 4227 Bellevue Rd. Officiating will be Fr. Ed Littelman and Fr. Robert Donnely.
Joe's family would like to thank Dr. Monica Young, the staff and all the volunteers of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo for the loving care and support they provided for Joe during his time there.
