Joseph B. Yelverton, Sr., age 81, after a rewarding lifetime of devoted service to his church, has been called into a higher service by the Lord in his heavenly kingdom. Joe was called to be with God on Friday, October 23, 2015 with his loving wife by his side. A native of Graves, Georgia, he was born to James and Jewell (Blalock) on August 31, 1934. Joe served in the Army National Guard in Georgia. He met and married the love of his life, Ellanor Douglas, August 30, 1952. Joe held many jobs; he retired from Champion Spark Plug after 26 years of service. He was a devout Christian and a man of great faith. Joe was a longtime member of Shelton Park Church of God where he headed "Prayer Keys," was a trustee and church treasurer for 33 years. He touched the lives of all he met. Joe was known for his kindness and goodness; a true "man of God." He will be deeply missed by all.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ellanor; son, Joseph Jr. (Patsy); daughters, Darlene (Jimmy) Terry and Cheryl (Dan) Moore; 6 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Burma (Forest) Chapman and Anneilda; brothers, Billy, Randy and John. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and James "Pete" and grandson, Jason Moore.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Shelton Park Church of God, 8702 Douglas Rd., Temperance, MI 48182 with visitation one hour prior in church. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
