Joseph Arthur Hammel

Joseph Arthur "Art" Hammel, age 82, of Toledo, passed away March 13, 2008 at West Toledo Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 17, 1925 to Paula B. Hammel in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Art retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio and then the Toledo Zoo before moving to Alpena, Michigan. He lived in Alpena with his wife Geri until returning to Toledo to live near his family due to declining health.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard and infant daughter, Cathy. Art is survived by his wife Geraldine; daughters: Claudia (Howard) Brown, Caroline Phillips; grandchildren: Kathy, Kim, Scott (Beth), Kristi, Wendy, Darci (Brian), Elizabeth, Daniel and Richard (Sally); great-grandchildren: Christopher, Wesley, Autumn, Megan, Paige, Giles, Pauline "PJ", Courtney, Isabelle, Alden and Braiden; great-great-granddaughter: Piper; and many dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 428 N. Erie St., Toledo at 11:00 a.m. on March 19, 2008. The Newcomer Funeral Home, (419-473-0300) assisted the family with arrangements.
