Jonathan Ross Nickens

November 13, 1984 — May 29, 2023

Jonathan Ross Nickens, beloved son, father, and brother, departed from this life far too soon, on the peaceful morning of May 29, 2023, at his home in Toledo, at the age of 38. A native of Toledo, he was lovingly brought into this world by Fredrick and Laura (Hanna) Nickens on November 13, 1984. Jon's life was a tapestry of vibrant hues and quiet shadows.

The passionate roar of the Michigan Wolverines, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Tigers echoed in Jon's loyal heart. Yet his passions extended far beyond the arena of sports. He found joy in the world's simpler gifts, collecting baseball cards and stamps, and exploring the intricate world of computers and electronics. Each fascination, a testament to his curious spirit and inquisitive personality.

His greatest joy, however, was found within the sacred bonds of his family, especially with his dearly loved son, Carson. Jon's heart was expansive, his soul gentle, and his presence will be profoundly missed. Yet, he would wish us to remember him not with sorrow but with the warmth of a smile, as he often wore.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Ann Douglas and Rosemarie Hanna; his grandfather, Robert W. Hanna; and his aunt, Robin Mower.

Mourning his loss, yet celebrating his life, are his precious son, Carson Nickens; his devoted parents, Fred and Laura Nickens; his brother, Nathan (Derick Waller) Nickens; aunts and uncles, Pam (Wayne) Bezeau, Craig (Sandy) Hanna, Don (Stephanie) Hanna, Jeff (Mary Jo) Hanna, Mary Ann (Brian) Huddleston, Bob (Carol) Nickens, Bill (Diana) Nickens; numerous cousins and many other loving family members.

Jon's journey was a poignant testament to the complexities of life. Yet, even as we remember his struggles, we recall his triumphs and the vibrancy of his spirit. We remember this spirit, embodied in his passions and his love for family. His was a soul that danced on the delicate edge of existence, gifting us all with a life lived in earnest and loved deeply. Through all the storms and calm, Jonathan Ross Nickens lived, loved, and left a legacy that will endure in our hearts, forever elegant and forever beautiful.
