Jon I. Darnell, age 68, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at St. Anne's Mercy Hospital. He was born August 1, 1953, in Lakewood, Ohio to Donald and Betty (Brazie) Darnell.
Jon grew up in the Cleveland area and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians, following them faithfully over the years.
As a boy he realized he had an ear for music and began playing the guitar. Jon was proficient with both the electric and acoustic guitar, starting his first band at a very young age. As he grew up he continued developing his musical talent writing and performing his own music.
He married the love of his life, Kandy Keeling, on January 25th, 1974. Soon after, the happy couple made their home in Toledo and together they raised their two daughters.
Jon always had an appreciation of cars, so a career in Auto Sales was something he truly enjoyed. Jon collected and showed several classic cars at Car Shows all over the country, something he enjoyed doing with his wife and in-laws. They were all longtime members of POCI (Pontiac Oakland Club International). Some of his favorites were his '68 yellow Firebird, '47 Ford, and most recently '72 yellow Volkswagen Beetle.
Jon was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Toledo, where he played with the church band "Basic Grace", something he enjoyed for many years. There was a wide range of music Jon loved playing and listening to. The Beatles, Classic Rock and several Christian Music artists were some of his favorites.
Most importantly Jon was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and Papa, cherishing time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Kandy (Keeling) Darnell; his daughter, Tyna; granddaughter, Kyra; and in-laws, Arlene and William Keeling. Jon is survived by his loving daughter, Lindsey (Chris) Bialy; grandchildren, Christopher, Cassius, Lucas, Tykan, Ezekiel and Jonathan; brothers, Robert (Cheryl), Steve (Nancy), Matthew (Sandy) and Ronald (Tracy); brothers-in-law, Mike and Mark (Shelly) Keeling; and son-in-law, Ryan Wittman. Also cherishing Jon's memory are many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
