John Willis Schade

John "Jack" Willis Schade, age 90, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Ebeid Hospice Center in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born May 31, 1922 in Toledo to Dr. August Henry Schade and Aris Pearl (Mygatt) Schade.
John was a proud veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School, class of 1941. John worked at the Buckeye Brewery and for the City of Toledo as a Supervisor of Maintenance at the Toledo Zoo for over 20 years. His love of the zoo was exemplified by his many fond stories of his experiences and coworkers. John also owned his own painting business for most of his working years. He volunteered at the West Toledo Dialysis Center. As a young boy he traveled the world with his parents. John enjoyed wildlife, the outdoors and spending time up north. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was a staunch OSU Buckeye fan. John was always humorously quick-witted and found the good in all things. He truly loved his family, driven to give his best, always sacrificing for them.
John was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Linda Schade and son, Lawrence Schade. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Nancy Carol; sons, John II (Dee), Gordon (Vickie) Brown, Vaughn Michael (Sue) Brown and Ralph (Colleen); daughters, Joyce Fry, Joanne O'Brien, Jacqueline (Don) Ammons and Caroline (Dale) Track; twenty grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
Private family services will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery where John will come to rest with his parents and son.
Memorial Donations can be given to Ebeid Hospice Center, Sylvania, Ohio or the Toledo Zoo Education Department.
