John A. Waltzer
John A. Waltzer, age 81 of Toledo passed away Friday, February 25, 2005 in Lake Park Nursing Home. He was born May 18, 1923 to Anthony and Mary (Tilger) Waltzer in Newark, Ohio. John was a Chief Quality Control Manager employed with the former City Auto Stamping, Sheller Globe Industries, retiring from Electro Prime in 1995 after 50 years of service. John attended St. Catherine's grade school and continued his education at Central Catholic High School graduating in 1941. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran. John attended and graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Naval Academy. During his service, he made two runs in the North Atlantic and then became a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Navy serving on the Cruiser St. Louis in the Pacific Theater. John was a longtime member of Christ the King Church. He had a love of golf and was also a talented dancer. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and loved a good card game.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant son, Nicholas Waltzer and son, Tom Waltzer. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy M. (Gymate) Waltzer; sons, Tim (Judy Beening) Waltzer and Terry (Cathy Soldan) Waltzer; grandchildren, Kimberly (Todd) Hanson; Jeff (Karen) Waltzer; Eric Waltzer; Nick (Jen) Waltzer; Joe Waltzer; Wendy (Abe) O'Leary; Todd Waltzer and John Thomas Waltzer; great grandchildren, Grace and Emma O'Leary; Natalie Hanson and Lauren Waltzer and sister, Helen Gill.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ The King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Military Services will be provided by the Lucas County Burial Corp.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Lake Park Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice.
