John W. McDonald, age 81, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania. He was born on July 8, 1933 to Frank and Evelyn (Higgins) McDonald in Defiance, Ohio. For many years John worked as an executive in the automotive industry and as a physics engineer, having worked for Ford, G.M. and Doehler Jarvis. He also has many patents and even after retirement he continued to invent new designs to improve upon the manufacturing process. John and his late wife, Sue McDonald enjoyed years of traveling the U.S. and Europe. They later settled in Bradenton, Florida.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue McDonald in December 2014; son, John W. McDonald, Jr. in 1984 and brother, Gerald McDonald. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jennifer Steves, Jeffrey McDonald and Jacquelyn Harland; grandchildren, Nicholas and Amy Steves, Robin, Adam, Cory and Charlotte Harland; step-children, Ginger Jones, Katie Hemlock, Marylou Wright, Jeff Kolenda and Joe Kolenda; siblings, Joanne Christ and Phyllis Decker; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
