John went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2021. He was born on December 19, 1932 in Toledo, OH at Mercy Hospital to James Oliver and Mable (Donze) Trumbull.
John graduated from Macomber/Whitney Vocational High School and then served our country during the Korean conflict. He was then a student at The American Academy of Art in Chicago, IL where he studied advertising art.
He married the love of his life, Carol Polsdorfer, his wife of 50 years, on May 3, 1958. She has been waiting for him in heaven since 2008. John then began his successful life as a family man as well as his professional career and lifelong adventures in painting.
For 30 years John excelled in commercial art and advertising jobs for companies in Toledo such as Owens-Illinois, WSPD, Academy Art & Sign, Paramount Printing, Focus Unlimited, Walbridge and Bellg, Focus and Prestolite. In 1985, he ventured out on his own, founding Art & Ink Graphics & Design, in which Carol and his children played vital roles for years.
John was a signature member of the Ohio Watercolor Society and Northwest Ohio Watercolor Society and was also a member of the Toledo Artists' Club. He has taught painting classes at the Toledo Museum of Art, Spectrum, The Toledo Artists' Club and the Sylvania Senior Center.
His paintings have received prizes in many local and regional shows. His work has appeared in numerous local, state and national exhibitions and can be found in many private collections.
For many years John loved traveling to art seminars all over the country and also enjoyed being part of the Monday Morning Painters.
He also loved being involved in his local church as well as the Christian Business Men's Committee of Toledo. He was known for his patience and persistent trust that the Lord had perfect timing for everyone and all things good.
Surviving are his children Mike (Sue), Greg (Dawn) and Joni (Tim Allinson), 9 grandchildren, Nick, Kirstin (Pete Hutton), Daniel (Rebecca), Doug, Andrew, Nathan (Sydney), Bethany, Jessica and Katie and 5 great grandchildren Emily, Ashton, Logan, Natalie, and Lewis.
Preceding him in death were his wife Carol Trumbull, parents James and Mable Trumbull and siblings Lee, Chuck, Don, Betty and Joanne.
There will be a visitation Friday, November 19 from 3 to 8 pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo Ohio. On Saturday November 20 at First Alliance Church, 2201 Monroe, St, Toledo Ohio, there will be a visitation from 10 – 11am. This will be followed by a memorial service at 11 am and then a luncheon, all at First Alliance Church. Private burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Clinton, MI.
