John T. "Woody" Woodward, age 64, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at St. Anne Mercy Hospital. He was born on July 18, 1950 to Veryl and Phyllis (Bell) Woodward in Toledo. Woody was a polio survivor and was the 1956 National Poster Child for the March of Dimes. In 1972 he was a contestant in swimming in the Para Olympics in Germany. Woody enjoyed fishing, woodworking, scuba diving and Boy Scouts. He loved nothing more than time spent with his family.
Woody is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Sharon; children, Amber (Asimur) Rahman and Nathan (Chisa) Woodward; grandchildren, Jeny, Holly, Nazeerah and Safeerah; sisters, Linda and Jill (Johnny) Meyers; father and mother-in-law, Ken and Joyce Balduff; sisters-in-law. Sheila (Joe) Lisk and Elaine (Butch) Gohl; brothers-in-law, Michael (Bonnie), Wayne (Carolyn) and Paul (Laurie) Balduff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Woodward; and brother, Charles Woodward.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 4 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
