John A. Slupecki, born on May 13, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, in his hometown. John was a devoted husband, cherished father and beloved grandfather who leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family.
John was married to his wife Mary Eileen for 68 years. They fell in love, got engaged and married within 9 months of being together. Their marriage is a testimony to unconditional love and commitment.
For over 30 years, John dedicated himself to his career at American Cyanamid, where he exemplified hard work and commitment. John’s educational journey began at St. Vincent’s De Paul Elementary School, leading him to Central Catholic High School, and ultimately graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy with a major in accounting. His values of perseverance and diligence were cornerstones of his character.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, a testament to his dedication to both family and nation. He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church for 66 years where their children received a solid education not only in academics but also in deep faith.
A true sports enthusiast, John found immense joy in watching his children and grandchildren engage in sports. His children credit their sports knowledge and skill to him. He attended several Notre Dame football games, instilling a love of football within his family that continues to this day. Go Irish!
He relished family vacations spent in the pop-up camper visiting numerous State and National parks. Once John and Eileen retired, they continued their travel endeavors. They immensely enjoyed a three week trip out West, the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, and several trips to the Smokey Mountains. They were snowbirds in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and then eventually went further south to Destin, Florida. They enjoyed time with their seasonal friends and always welcomed their children and grandchildren, along with their friends, which produced numerous lasting memories.
John’s personality shone brightly; he was a warm and engaging individual who delighted in talking to people. Loved ones describe him as a family man whose kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. You could sum up John in three words: Faith, Family, and Sports—a mantra that defined his life’s passions and endeavors.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Mary Eileen Slupecki; his daughters, Karen (Bob) Kupetz, Patti (Dan) Fought, Kathy Slupecki; his son, John (Cheryl) Slupecki; as well as his treasured grandchildren—Cameron Kupetz, Megan Kupetz, Kyle Getzinger, JJ (Jen) Fought, Mandi (Kyle)Simmons, Kasey (Tom) Marshall, Tori (Nik) Tippery, Tara Slupecki, Ella Maher, and Jack Maher. John was also the proud grandfather of ten great-grandchildren: Zoey, Crosby, Graham, Tilly, Juno, Brooklyn, Grace, Tre, Kendall, and Klay. He is remembered fondly by a host of extended family and dear friends.
John was predeceased by his beloved daughter Diane Slupecki, his parents John “Josh” Slupecki Sr. and Lillian Slupecki, and his siblings, including three sisters and a brother who passed before him, leaving John as the last of his immediate family.
Visitation will be held at St. Clement Church, located at 3030 Tremainsville Road, Toledo, OH 43613, on April 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass at St. Clement Catholic Church from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. John will then be laid to rest following a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, 2224 Dorr St., Toledo, Ohio at 12:30 PM.
