John G. Polakovic, age 94, of West Toledo, passed away peacefully Friday, January 19, 2007 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 20, 1912 to John and Anna (Surik) Polakovic in Owasso, MI. Before moving to Toledo, John was a resident in Rossford. He retired from Libbey-Owens-Ford in 1974 after 42 years in plant 8 at the East Broadway location. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II with the 37th Division, 148th Infantry, Company F, in Bowling Green, OH. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Military Order of Purple Hearts and Christ the King Catholic Church. John was an avid dancer, loved to read, especially westerns, playing cards and dice and loved to do word searches. He was a true Atlanta Braves fan as well. John often enjoyed taking vacations, to anywhere warm, especially with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Salomea (Sally Krzyminski) Polakovic, brother, Alex Polakovic and sister, Mary Kronen. John is survived by his loving family, son: John F. (Linda) Polakovic; daughters: Jackie (Larry) Jacquemotte and Jane Rork; grandchildren: John F. II (Carl), Brian, Laura (John), Lindy (Scott) and Justin; great-grandchildren: Zachary, Spencer, Chloe, Rylie, Emily, Allie, Caleb and Kylie; and sister: Millie Heban.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
