John O. Ankney, age 96 1/2, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at his home where he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 4, 1919 to Orve and Emma (Langdon) Ankney. John owned Toledo Turf Equipment for over 35 years, it was a business that catered to golf course maintenance. He was a 53 year member of the Elks Post 53 and a member of the F.O.E. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling in various leagues, golfing, playing cards and board games. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with his family and woodworking.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sallyann (Kennedy) Ankney; children, Janet Ankney, Susan (Chris) Allman, John (Cindy) Ankney and Sally (Dennis) Hill; step-children, Dan (Diane) Kissling, Mickki (Ross) Skaggs, Georgia Goolsby and Willie (Candice) Kissling; special family members, Angelica Martinez and Allen Hoar; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father, Burton Duvall; sister, Irene Eggl and brother, Grover Ankney.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Memorial Contributions may be made in John's memory to Senior Independence Hospice.
