John E. Matthews
John E. Matthews, age 83, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Heartland of Waterville Care Center. He was born September 24, 1924 in Toledo. John was employed in the auto industry for 25 years retiring in the mid-1980's. John was an avid golfer, enjoying summers on several courses and even marshalling at Bedford Hills and Ottawa Park for awhile. He also enjoyed bowling in the winter months and kept busy on several leagues. John was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran church and cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Marie Matthews; mother, Loretta (Fowler) Truax; stepfather, Arthur Truax and sister, Clarice Burd. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Anna (Goachee) Matthews; sons, John (Susan) Matthews of Toledo; Robert (Beth) Matthews of Temperance and Thomas (Sherrie) Matthews of Toledo; grandchildren, Jackie; Brad; Melissa; Brooke; Madeleine and Wesley; 2 step grandchildren, Christy and Angie; 3 great grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests Thursday from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Jason Tyas. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
