John Rodney Love, 69, passed away on February 10, 2019. He was born on April 24, 1949 to the late Rose Marie Love and John Robinson Sr. in Toledo, Ohio.
Known as Ronnie to his family and friends, he attended the former St. Benedict's Catholic Grade School. After spending 2 years at Central Catholic High School, Ronnie graduated from Libbey High School in 1967. He went on to study Sociology and Psychology at the University of Toledo, graduating in 1971 with his Bachelor's Degree. Ronnie joined the United States Air Force in June 1971. He studied to be a Dental Tech at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. After working as a Dental Specialist for a year, Ronnie was assigned to the 776th Air Force Orchestras as a Rock and R&B band leader, guitar instrumentalist and percussionist. From 1972-1974 Ronnie toured with the AF band entertaining the troops. He was honorably discharged on March 19, 1974. Ronnie moved to California where he wore many hats, such as a word processor, typist, health educator, library clerk, etc. as he built his reputation as a serious, full-time musician and band leader under his name, Johnny Love. In 1994 Ronnie moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he made his living as a musician until he became ill and moved back to Toledo.
Left to mourn his loss are his brothers, Glenn R. Love, Joseph N. Newton Jr., John M. Newton and Sir Boston; Sisters, Josetta L. Akpan, Margo E. Newton, Cheryl Tyler-Folsom, Mary Stovall-Turman and Lynn McCoy; special goddaughters, Marita Feemster and Alea Carridean.
The family will receive guests and share memories on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer SW-Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
