John L. Rippel

John L. Rippel, 92, passed away on August 3, 2012. He was born on July 17, 1920 to the late Louise and Theodore Rippel in Toledo, Ohio.
John was a member of the Waite High School Football Team that won the State Championship in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. John was a Long Shoreman at Lakefront Docks and also worked at Acklin Stamping. He was a past commander and lifetime member of American Legion Post 18, 40/8 and VFW.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Ansel Davidson. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Michael (Margie) Rippel and Christine (Bert) Thorpe; brother, Carl Rippel; many grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 2-6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). A funeral service will begin at 6:00 p.m.
