Surrounded by his loving family, John L. Morris, Sr., age 72, of Northwood, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at Bay Park Hospital. He was born on April 16, 1939 to Homer and Mary (Longridge) Morris in Dearborn, Michigan. John was employed with Coy Kendall Greenhouses for 30 years and then worked with Lakewood Greenhouses for the last 20 years. He also received the Michigan State Grower of the Year award. John was a member of Cornerstone Church for almost 20 years. He loved flowers, fishing and camping with his family. John and Gay use to square and round dance for many years. John loved nothing more than spending time with his family, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his loving wife of almost 53 years, Gay Morris; son, John (Gail) Morris, Jr.; daughter, Jennifer (Rob) Gunderson; grandchildren, David, Heather, John III, Stephen, Tori, Gabrielle and Trisha; great-granddaughter, Bailey-Rae; brother, Jim (Kathy) Morris; sister-in-love, Jean Morris; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mary Morris; brothers, Sam (Dolly) and Homer Morris; brother-in-love, Gary Stoddard; nephew, Brad Tooman; and great-nephew, Adam Stiles.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 3 - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Church, 1520 Reynolds Rd., Maumee, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow Lake Township Cemetery.
