John A. Konecny, a beloved figure in the Toledo community, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 28, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, John lived a rich and fulfilling life that was marked by both personal and professional accomplishments.
John dedicated much of his career to the automotive field, working for several high-performance speed shops throughout the Toledo area. His expertise and passion led him to the DANA Corporation and ultimately to his retirement from Mahle. One of his proudest achievements was judging engine building contests for NASCAR at Hendrick Motorsport, a testament to his skill and dedication to the industry.
An alumnus of Woodward High School, where he graduated in the class of 1962, John furthered his education by attending Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan, where he received his Associate Degree in Applied Science. His academic journey complemented his practical skills and solidified his place in the automotive realm.
Outside of his professional life, John was known for his sociable personality. He enjoyed sharing his love for Alabama football with everyone around him, often engaging in lively discussions about his favorite team. He was also a passionate enthusiast of building high-performance engines and had a fondness for dining out at Mexican restaurants, which added flavor to his social interactions.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Konecny; his beloved children, Lisa (Bill) Noon, John D. Konecny, and Keith M. Konecny; his brother, Bruce (Sherry) Konecny; as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy in his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Marian Konecny, and his sister, Sharon Ventresca. John leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and passion for life that will be fondly cherished by all who knew him.
