John P. Kerekes Sr. of Toledo, formerly of Swanton and Columbus, passed away peacefully at home on June 27th at the age of 89. He was born to John D. and Catholene Rose and was the oldest of seven children.
A Bedford graduate of 1951 and from 1952 - 1962 he served in the United States Air Force.
John loved football and bowling and could not resist an animal in need. He worked as a cook for Holly's in Wauseon, Roadhouse on Central, managed a restaurant in Lyons, Ohio and owned Chicaroos in Whitehouse.
He is survived by his sons, John P. Kerekes Jr. Of Houston and Donald J. Kerekes of Grand Rapids; a grandson, Christopher Scott Kerekes; sister, Barbara (Pat) Hartbarger of Ottawa Lake; and a brother, Joseph Kerekes of Toledo. Also survived are numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, William R. Kerekes; two sisters, Mary Owen and Kathleen West; and two brothers, Anthony and James.
Cremation is done through Newcomer Funeral Home and a memorial service is set for Saturday July 23rd at 11:00 at Regina Coeli Parish, 530 Regina Parkway Toledo,Ohio 43612. John will be laid to rest at a later date.
