John Joseph Rowan, age 81, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born August 3, 1926 to Joseph and Helen (Kevill) Rowan in Toledo. John was employed in the trucking industry through Lee and Cady, Kroger, Spector Freight and Teamsters #20 retiring in 1983. He was a 1945 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 1943-1947: Amph Trac Crewman Asiatic, Pacific Area, Battle engagement at Okinowa, Ryukyu Islands. John was a parishioner of Regina Coeli Church and a life member of VFW Post #606, and past Post Commander and member of the DAV and American Legion, Cooties Pup Tent #44 Past Seam Squirrel. John was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Marietta (Liebherr), whom he married October 19, 1946 and father to his 7 sons and 5 daughters.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Ann; grandson, John Michael; great granddaughter, Kylee Tolber and brothers, Eugene and James Rowan and sisters, Mary Kathleen Kenyon and Margaret Theresa Grady. John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marietta C. Rowan; children, John (Gigi) Rowan; Mary (Jerry) Turner; Connie Lynne (Pete) Jacobs; Tim Rowan; Jim (Jeri) Rowan; Terry (Linda) Rowan; Ellen; Larry (Gabriella) Rowan; Denny (Helisa) Rowan; Dawn (Bob) Corser and Mike Rowan; brothers, William (Barb) and Robert (Rose) Rowan; sisters, Noreen (Gene) Mortemore and Joan (Buzz) Pershing. Also surviving John are many special grandchildren, great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Denny) Ricker.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 2-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 7:00 p.m. Officiating will be Fr. James Auth.
In lieu of flowers memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
