John Francis Hancock, beloved husband and father, born May 17, 1937, died Monday, May 17, 2021, in Monroe, OH. He was exactly 84 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eileen; sons, Martin (Merlynne) and Michael (Shannon); daughter, Marie Durbin (Robert Rosenthal); brothers, Edward (Barbara), Michael (Sue), and Thomas; sister, Mary (Bill) LeStrange; and grandchildren, Shauna Durbin (Dylan Antovich), Rebecca (Josh) Rezac and Devin and Daryn Hancock. He was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Leona (Schick) Hancock; and sister, Margaret.
After graduating from Central Catholic High School, John proudly served in the Naval Reserve while attending college at the University of Toledo. He made a career of being a pharmaceutical representative for Bristol Myers, retiring after 33 years.
Known throughout the community of Toledo his accomplishments were many, including being an avid bowler, inductee in the Toledo Bowling Hall of Fame with 14 perfect 300 sanctioned league games, the last achieved at 76 years of age. John enjoyed umpiring for men's and women's softball leagues for over 30 years. Fishing held his interests as well, with summer weekly fishing trips on Lake Erie. John enjoyed travel and had many wonderful vacations with family. In later years he was a 9 year trustee of the Waterside HOA, where he and Eileen resided for many years and made many friends. In late life John and Eileen moved to Monroe, Ohio to be closer to family.
Visitation on Friday, June 18, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio. A celebration of life Mass will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio. Family burial service to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
