John H. Wilder, age 84, of Holland, passed away Friday, September 22, 2006 surrounded by his family in his home. He was born November 9, 1921 to George and Louise (Willey) Wilder in Toledo, Ohio. John was WWII U.S. Navy veteran. He was a Fire Fighter with the City of Toledo for 25 years serving with Fire House 1, 4, 15 and 25 with the Rescue Squad until retiring in 1975. John held the record for the fastest time to respond from bed to truck, which is on view at the Fireman's Museum. He was a longtime member of Christ the King Church and sang with the choir. John also enjoyed traveling to Alaska, as well as, camping and fishing throughout the states. John was also trained and worked in the electronics industry. He was known for his ability to be "able to fix anything".
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Leona Crowley and Helen Roberts and infant son, John Joseph Wilder. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anna Mae (Bader) Wilder; children, Janet (Bill) Spear of Ketchikan, Alaska; Joyce Ann (Bill) Van Deman of Monticello, IN; John (Debra) Wilder; Jennifer (Gilbert) Evans; Julie (Michael) Orosz and Jeannine Wilder; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). The Fireman's Last Bell Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Celebration will begin Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane.
