John L. Cherry, age 79, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born on September 7, 1938 to Fred and Gerry (Shaul) Cherry in Muncie, Indiana. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School. John retired from GM Hydromatic after 38 years. He was a longtime member of the Sylvania Pyramid Masonic Lodge #287 and the Sylvania Moose Lodge. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and racing. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara "Bobbie" (Cherry) Kreder. John is survived by his son, Jay (Connie) Cherry; daughter, Lisa Anderson; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jenna) Anderson, Laura Anderson and Ryan; great-grandson, Jonathan; brother, Frank W. (Donna) Cherry; mother of his children and dear friend, Shirley Cherry; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Masonic Services will begin Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
