John A. Hage

On July 8, 2009, John A. Hage, age 65 of Sylvania, Ohio (formerly of Gahanna, Ohio) departed this earthly life too soon, after a long struggle with muscular dystrophy. He is in heaven now, with his Lord, most likely enjoying a Quiznos and a beer, listening to smooth jazz and planning a party or another fundraiser with the angels. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all his friends and family, but by none more than his loving nieces whose musical performances he enjoyed so much. John very much appreciated the patient support of his caregivers and fellow residents at Kingston Care Center (Sylvania), and West Park Place (Toledo), his fellow parish members at St. Matt's, his K of C brothers, his friends at Gatsby's and Flannigans (Columbus) and his neighbors at Perico Bay Club (Bradenton, FL). During his lifetime, John was blessed by the most patient, loving and supportive lifelong friends a person could have in Jodi and Scott, Mary, Wayne and Kacey, Dan, Denny, Skip, Sidney Q. Chopnik, and their families.

John was a computer software specialist for AT&T in Columbus for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. He then formed Chopnik Computer Solutions, offering software consulting. John was an avid "Big Band and Jazz" fan and a strong supporter of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. He was a dedicated and active member of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church as an usher and Mass server. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council 5801 in Gahanna and a 4th Degree Member of Columbian Martyrs Assembly in Columbus. He was very proud of his involvement in the annual Knights of Columbus "Measure Up" campaign, raising funds for individuals with Developmental Disabilities. During his career, John was active in the Association of Information Technologies (AITP), serving in numerous capacities including President of the Columbus Chapter and Treasurer of Region 18. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Epsilon Epsilon Chapter at the University of Toledo and was active member in the fraternity's Alumni Chapter. John received a BA in Mathematics from the University of Toledo in 1965 and an MS in Computer and Information Science from The Ohio State University in 1970.

He is preceded in death by his dear parents, Albert and Mary Hage of Toledo and is survived by sister, Mary Lou; brothers, Charles (wife Elisa, daughters Emily and Julia) of Sylvania, Ohio, and Thomas, of Toledo.

A Memorial Gathering will take place at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4227 Bellevue Road, in Toledo (43613), at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 13th, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of John, to a charitable organization of the donor's choice. John would be happy if you chose to support your favorite musical organization or student while raising a toast to him.
