Johanna M. "Jennie" Thompson, age 90, Toledo, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living Center. She was born on April 9, 1926 to Vincent and Jennie Bluni in Valley Camp, Pennsylvania. Jennie lived in Brooklyn, New York until she married Vincent and moved to Toledo in 1946 and started their family. She was an excellent cook and welcomed everyone to her giant dining room table for Sunday dinners. Jennie enjoyed gardening, and traveling the world with her husband. She was known for her baked goods and Italian cooking. Jennie loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Vincent Thompson; sister, Mary Gabriel; brother, Jack Bluni; and great-grandson, John Goldsmith. Johanna is survived by her loving children, Rochelle Liberios, Vincent H. (Linda) Thompson, Garry Thompson, Larry (Karen) Thompson, Vanessa (David) Shoffer, Claudette (Anthony) Cicora, Andrew (Kathy) Thompson, Jennifer (Bradley Fofrich) Thompson, and Carmela (Drew) Roth; 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Bluni; sister, Carmela Sposito; sister-in-law, Ann Bluni; brother-in-law, Paul Gabriel.
The family will receive guests on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, with a Scripture Service held in the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Final Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo. Officiating will be Fr. William Rose. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
