Joe Alford, age 75, a longtime resident of Holland, Ohio passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born February 4th, 1933 to Frank and Mariline (Shackleford) Alford in Cawood, Kentucky. Joe was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving his country proudly. He was employed with G.M. Power Train for 30 years. After retiring Joe was known by many as "Tomato Joe" tending to his tomato stand with his son James. In addition to his love of gardening, Joe was an avid fisherman, teaching his children how to fish. He also enjoyed traveling with his family. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post #646. He will fondly remembered by his family as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Alford and sister, Jennie Mae Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marilyn L. (Shay) Alford; children, Karen Byrd; Patti Orner; Kimberly Carroll; Amy Alford and James Fulton; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchild and many dear friends far and near.
The family will receive guests Thursday from 2-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
