Joanne Ziemke

Joanne Ziemke, age 80, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Windhaven Nursing Home, Temperance, MI. She was born on August 11, 1930 to Karl and Dorothy Imholt. Joanne was a lifetime resident of Toledo. She worked in various insurance offices over the years. Joanne has always been a devoted volunteer, beginning at the age of 16 at the Robinwood Hospital, then Larc Lane School, Medical College, Children's Services Board and 2 – 3 days a week for 16 years at the Sunset House during the time her mother lived there and for many years after. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family at the family's lake cottage. Joanne's door and heart were always open to anyone in need. Her love of caring for others was evident in the cookies she baked for anyone and everyone. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ernie Ziemke; children, Karl (Sandy) Ziemke and Kristina (Daniel) McKegney; grandchildren, Teri (Juan) Varillas, Brandon, Dandi and Bob Ziemke, Nathaniel, Noah, River and Sky McKegney; great-grandchildren, Kira, Cerina, Luis and Aliyah on the way; sister, Judy (Bill) DeSana; special niece, Lisa (Joe) Rioux; nephew, Michael Papenfus; special cousins, Dean Sonner, Kate Shaffer and Dorothy Samson; and many dearl friends, great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive guests on Friday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
