Joanne C. Mcelheney

March 30, 1940 — March 13, 2022

Joanne C. McElheney, better known as Joanne, Mom, Grandma, or Mac was reunited with her true love, Bob in eternity on March 13, 2022. Joanne was born Joanne Gephardt on March 30, 1940 in Napoleon, Ohio to Lawrence "Butch" and Mary Gephardt. She graduated from Napoleon High School, and on June 12, 1960 she married Robert F. McElheney III. Together, they built a life that included time away from Ohio while Bob served in the United States Army, running the successful McElheney Hardware, operating a farm, traveling together, collecting Heisey glassware, and always making time for children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joanne quietly, yet strongly gave selflessly to her family and ensured that all of her family was cared for and never lacking. If ever there was an epitome of servant leadership, it was Joanne.

Joanne loved to knit. She loved a good Western. But, most of all, Joanne loved her Michigan football (much to the chagrin of her son in law and her oldest grandsons). Her deviled eggs were the stuff of legend, and she always made sure if you came to visit you were well fed. In fact, Joanne didn't keep any secrets about her own love of potato chips, ice cream, or anything chocolate. And, if you asked, Joanne would brag about her family and all of their accomplishments; and she always had a wonderful story about growing up in Napoleon.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence "Butch" and Mary, and her husband, Bob. She is survived by her children, Robert McElheney IV and his partner, Tracy Landis, Mary McElheney and her partner, John S. Wilson III, Michele McFarland and her husband, Jodie, and Dawn McElheney; grandchildren, Patrick Brighton and his wife, Lindsey, Robert McElheney V and his wife, Maggie, Aphton McElheney, Tristan Rinehart and his wife, Kim, James Rinehart, Maggie Rinehart, Catherine Rinehart, Nicholas McFarland, Jacob McFarland, Everett McFarland, Izzy McFarland, Heather Landis, Bobby Landis; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Brighton, Carter Brighton, Robert McElheney VI, Thomas McElheney, and soon to be baby Rinehart.

Anyone wishing to honor and remember Joanne may do so by considering a donation to the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio or ProMedica (Ebeid) Hospice.
