Joanne I. Hafner

Joanne I. Hafner, 90, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Elizabeth Scott Community Center, Monclova Twp. Born in Toledo, Ohio, February 4, 1934, she was the eldest child of Harold V. and Lucille C. (Weible) Askins.

Joanne, a Burnham HS graduate, was a para-professional with Toledo Public Schools for over 20 years, before retiring. She was a wonderful cook, baker, and avid reader. She enjoyed time in nature and fishing at her parents' Nettle Lake cottage, her daughter's pond, and her son's Posey Lake cottage.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Pamela (Noah) Broadway; son Mark (Barbara) Hafner; son-in-law John Haley; siblings Shirley Kaczmarek; Carolyn Varner; Robert Askins; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; her friend Gail Spencer, and other relatives. Joanne was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Haley, and her parents.

The family particularly thanks dear friend Kim Swann, as well as the staff at Elizabeth Scott, and the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, who provided loving care and comfort to Joanne and the family.

The family will receive guests at Newcomer Funeral Home - NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300), Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 10:30 to 11:00 AM, followed by a Christian Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
